Wow... I can't believe how drastically my drawing style has changed over the last couple of years. I had never been one for "abstract" art. Hell, I hadn't even been taught the meaning of the word in high school.(Shows how pathetic our art department was, doesn't it? haha) And just today I realized that I have taken a great liking to the curly swirls, dots, rectangles, etc that I am using so often in my more recent pieces... I had always said "I'll never be able to make any abstract piece... How do they do it?? Where does one get the inspiration for such a work??". But now I am finding that although I am not greatly familiar with the majority of the "abstract" art concept, I may have found one style that works very well with my preferences. I feel the need to pull some of the hairs out of my skull when I'm creating one of those pieces (Making a good composition and finding shapes that work well together isn't as easy as you'd think.) But once the work is complete, I feel so good about myself and what I've created.
I will never feel that I'm 100% satisfied with a drawing, however, but realizing you have the potential to do something new and different to your own typical taste and routine is such an amazing feeling...
